This is an article on CNN’s New site about using LiDAR to find a lost city. Currently, several Companies and agencies use LiDAR for this application.
Historic sites have been found using LiDAR around the world. Keith Cummingham found a horse track in some Douglas County, Kansas data. Some folks in Minnesota, Iowa and Ohio have used LiDAR to find Indian grave sites with LiDAR. The link below is an article below shows additional information
I have been asked the difference between these to terms. My initial understanding that these terms meant the same thing but some folks say they are different. I was looking for people’s opinion on this or if anyone knows if there are any papers on these topics. More later once I get more information.
